Event Recap: AI in the Jewelry Industry

On a splendid evening in Manhattan, the AI in the Jewelry Industry event, part of the Jewelry Gossips project in collaboration with NY Meetup, brought together some of the brightest minds in the jewelry business. Organized by CadCamNYC, a leader in 3D Jewelry Modeling and Printing, the event was a remarkable convergence of innovation and tradition.

A Stellar Lineup of Attendees

The venue was buzzing with excitement as guests mingled, including notable names like Harry Winston, Allison Lou, Jado Crown, Gugoco, and many more. CadCamNYC not only provided the perfect space but also ensured the evening was unforgettable with an incredible jazz duo setting the mood, delectable wine, and exquisite food.

Engaging Discussions and Insightful Exchanges

One of the evening's highlights was the engaging speech by Larisa Ginosyan, co-founder of Ai•id. She eloquently explained the benefits of their AI labeling system, emphasizing how it enhances transparency and openness among manufacturers and consumers alike. This system also serves as a robust method for protecting intellectual property rights in the jewelry industry.

Industry Perspectives on AI

Throughout the event, various industry professionals shared their insights on the impact of AI on the jewelry sector. Designers highlighted how AI can revolutionize the design process, allowing for quicker realization and modification of designs.
AI could help create more ideas more quickly," said jewelry designer Christina Carolina Soto. "As a sketch, you know, if you're working on a design team and you're sketching, you can come up with only so many designs in one day. AI could produce different patterns and designs much faster."
Another designer, Fanny David, mentioned, "I can definitely see it affecting the design side in terms of being able to quickly realize designs or to edit or modify designs." Attendees agreed that AI could streamline business operations, improving efficiency and organization within companies.
One participant pointed out that AI's ability to simplify complex processes could make luxury items more accessible without compromising their perceived value. "People are prepared to pay a premium price for luxury items," said Liz Gilbert from Shompole Collection Jewelry. "If it's advertised and marketed as something coveted, they will still pay for it and not think less of it if it's made with AI."
However, another raised a critical perspective, emphasizing the importance of transparency in using AI. "As a customer, I'm not going to like jewelry created by AI," said Vahan Virabyan of Virabyani Jewelry. This sentiment was echoed by Arthur Sargsyan from CadCamNYC, who noted, "It's really important to show how much we're using AI, even if we are, you know, experimenting with it."

A Commitment to Transparency

A Commitment to Transparency
The consensus among attendees was clear: transparency is crucial. Ai•id's labeling system offers an innovative solution to this need, helping businesses disclose their use of AI and build trust with their clients. This tool not only enhances credibility but also protects against intellectual property infringements.

How AI Labeling Will Protect Artists’ Rights and Ownership

Finally, it’s important to explore the impact AI labeling will have on art ownership and copyright. If artists want to declare their work as AI-free, labeling and 3rd party verification makes it easy to prove their work is original. Currently under US law, art created with generative AI isn’t able to be copyrighted, so it’s important for artists to be able to verify original work.
In addition to this, our technology at Ai-id makes it easy to analyze the origins of a particular piece of art, by providing a public record of AI technology used on each piece. This can be essential if legal challenges or disputes arise. How does this work? By using blockchain and IPFS technology, information for each piece will be kept safe in a secure, digital document. Once an artist uploads the info identifying each piece, this data remains and can’t be altered. Both artists and the public have easy, permanent access to a public record of AI use. As such, any debates about origins of a piece, when it was made, who the creator was, etc. are resolved with a simple search.
